TEXTUAL ANALYSIS 2.

Q

Front Cover Analysis

Q music magazine was first published in October 1986 by the Bauer Media Group. Originally, the magazine was to be called Cue, however the name was changed so that it would not be mistaken for a snooker magazine, another reason is that a single-letter title would be more noticeable on newsstands. The current editor is Paul Rees.
The Masthead is aligned to the left of the magazine, along with the cover lines directly underneath. This has set out a simple design where the image is on one side and the text on the other. The Red background on the 'Q' logo stands out significantly on the white background, it will make it more noteable for the reader when finding the magazine. The other colours on the page are also very bright and will stand out on the white background, this makes the magazine as a whole, quite eye-catching.  The large cover lines contain 'lures' which give the reader a bit more of an insight to the articles. For example, 'ARCADE FIRE / blood. sweat. & troubles' tells us that the interview with the band may reveal some issues that they have had recently, this is could be a reason for a fan of Arcade Fire to buy the
magazine. There is a graphic which looks like a sticker
stating '180 Songs to take on holiday' - this issue is obviously a summer one, August 2011. The sticker stands out because it is bright yellow and not placed with the other text on the page, it is layered over the image of the artists. The banner at the top of the page also shows that the issue is from the summer:

This also reels the audience in because summertime is when everyone wants to listen to good music in the sun, it is also the party season, where music is essential.
The images on the cover suggest that the main feature is Jessie J, as she is in the foreground of the image whilst the others are positioned behind her, another way in which this is suggested is that the cover line 'JESSIE J' is in a different colour to the others, which are black. The image relates to the lure, stating that Jessie is 'GaGa' and the image chosen to represent her shows Jessie wearing a leather outfit and a wild facial expression. The other images in the background are fairly symmetrical, with both men only showing one leg and having crossed arms behind Jessie J. Q magazine is priced at £3.90 per issue.
