Evaluation...

Here is my evaluation questions 1 & 2 in production... i am using Prezi!

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK!

I have learnt a lot over the stages of this coursework, mostly from audience feedback.

Pre-Production

Audience research was key in the making of both my preliminary task and the pre-production stages of my music magazine. I issued questionnaire's to classmates and a range of friends to gain the most reliable and valid feedback. This was extremely important because by asking what my target audience want to see in music/school magazines, i was able to incorporate the most popular aspects in to my product; which ultimately would improve sales.

Production

I asked members of my target audience to comment either on my blog or in person on which photo's or designs i should use for each of my pages. This was useful because i was able to then decide which image to use with the audience preference in mind, creating a popular product.

Post-Production

Throughout this stage i interviewed members of my target audience every time i would update one of my pages. This really helped me to figure out what did and did not work on my front cover, contents and double page spread.  I then conducted a more in-depth interview on my finished products via video recorder, however i am still overcoming technical difficulties so i have typed up the interview here:

AN INTERVIEW WITH ROSIE MCINTYRE

WHAT DO YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT MY PRODUCTS?

FRONT COVER

"I really like the image you have used with the sepia effect. It adds to the vintage style of the magazine and it looks really professional! The title really grabs your eye and straight away you know that it is a music magazine, and expect to find the stars stripped down to their personal identities from the 'Unplugged' connotations! One thing i think could be improved is the layout of the big cover story 'Ultimate review...' because it takes up a lot of room and looks a bit clumsy. But the sticker graphic looks really good and worn out - again following the vintage style."

CONTENTS PAGE

"I like the fact that theres one big image but some parts are emphasised, like the model. It gives a fuller effect to the page because your page listing is quite spacious, which is something you could improve. The 'contents' heading is a bit stretched upwards, but i dont think that this effects the quality of the page. The rest of the graphics are very professional, down to the mini version of the magazine title in the bottom right corner. And the 'Letter from the editor' is a nice touch, it makes it really personal for the reader."

DPS

I like this page a lot, the panorama style image across the top of the two pages really stands out and looks original, because it is unusual to see in mags. I like the little text box which says 'cover story' because it lets your readers know that this is also the celebrity that features on the front cover, and links your two products. However, i think that the quote underneath is too spaced out and could maybe be closer the artist in the image. Other than that, the text looks professionally done, for example, the quote which has been text wrapped.

FINAL PAGES

These are my final drafts for Unplugged:

Front Cover:

Contents Page:

Double Page Spread:

Saturday, 25 February 2012

contents page

Here is my, basically finished, contents page. I have abided by codes and conventions through keeping a 'letter from the editor' and a 'subscribe' gadget, however my contents page is very spacious compared to those in other magazines such as Rolling Stone; therefore i have also challenged codes and conventions in order to let my audience absorb all the information rather than be overwhelmed.

DPS

This is my almost finished double page spread, it challenges general codes and conventions of a DPS because the image is stretched across the top half of the pages horizontally rather than split vertically. It supports the style of my magazine which is more retro than mainstream.

Update..

So i tried a few things out.. I made Tilly into a silhouette:
However, audience feedback and personal opinion said this looked to basic and unprofessional so i added the rest of the original image as the faded background of my contents page and this improved the overall style and appearance.

I then started to question the use of text boxes around my cover lines as a combination with the new background, let me know what you think about them without the boxes!

almost there...

Just need to write the Letter from the editor, since i uploaded this picture i have added a page number at the bottom next to the 'unplugged' mini masthead. Also, one of the lines does not show up on the print screen but it is there :)

This is my double page spread so far... I have almost finished the interview, i just need to re-arrange and make it look more appealing overall! I will also add more of a title onto the image where it currently says "Tilly Woods".

CONTENTS DRAFT

I have made a rough computer design for my contents page; this will help me once i start to add the actual cover lines, etc because i now have a rough estimate of the space and how big things need to be.

Double page spread

Just a quick update on my double page spread so far! I am currently writing my interview to go on the bottom half of the pages. I have chosen the image to look like a panorama specifically to rebel against codes and conventions and make my magazine unique!

FINAL DRAFT: FRONT COVER!

This is my final draft however comments are still welcome for any improvements!

3rd DRAFT: COVER

Please comment :)

2nd DRAFT: COVER

Please comment on any possible changes! And any suggestions on what i could put in the blank space - if anything? (that is not a cover line or a sticker)

DRAFT: COVER

Here is my front cover so far, i have added a few cover lines so that you can see the image with the text overlapping. I am not sure about my 'Ultimate Review' text with the blue font, however after trying many different colours, this stands out the most - and fits to the colour scheme.

Please comment on any improvements!
